A young man in Greece is fighting for his life in a hospital after swallowing a whole hamburger without chewing it during a challenge with friends. The incident occurred in Koropi, Greece. According to witnesses, the young man was having a meal with his friends and allegedly tried to eat a whole burger as fast as possible. A police spokeswoman, Constantina Dimoglou, stated that authorities will request restaurant recordings to determine if anyone encouraged him to commit this serious crime. The former head of the doctors' association at Athens-Piraeus Hospital, Matina Pagoni, pointed out that the two young men had bet on swallowing a whole burger, which caused the young man in intensive care to have his airway blocked, adding: "These are tragic circumstances." She questioned how a young man could take responsibility for swallowing a whole burger without chewing. She added: "Even if he received first aid, a doctor's intervention is necessary, because leaving the brain without oxygen causes irreparable damage." The young man's family denied the claims of his participation in a challenge. The 22-year-old is being treated in the intensive care unit of G. Genimatas Hospital.
