18 Migrants Found Dead Near Crete

Buenos Aires, December 6 (NA) – A group of 18 migrants was found dead on a boat adrift near the Greek island of Crete, local authorities reported, with only two survivors. The vessel was located 26 nautical miles (48.2 kilometers) south of Yerapetra, a city on the southern coast of Crete. The Coast Guard later updated the information, stating that the boat had not capsized but was found adrift in heavy seas, and that the victims had been dead for more than a day. According to Noticias Argentinas, the bodies of the 18 victims were found inside the boat. Initial assessments indicated that hypothermia and starvation may have been the causes of death after prolonged exposure to severe weather conditions. The two survivors told authorities that the boat was adrift due to bad weather and that they had gone for hours without food or shelter.
