Konstantin Tasoulas, former speaker of the Greek parliament, was sworn in as the new president of the country on Thursday. The new position became vacant following the resignation of the previous president at the beginning of this month.
Tasoulas, a 71-year-old lawyer, received support from the ruling conservative party, which claims that his experience and knowledge qualify him for his new role.
"I accept the oath in a difficult time for the country, when all Greeks are facing serious challenges. As president, I promise to serve all citizens without exception," Tasoulas stated after the ceremony of taking the oath.
