Producer of 'Teheran' Dana Eden Found Dead in Athens

Dana Eden, the producer behind the hit Israeli series 'Teheran,' was found dead in a hotel room in Athens, Greek authorities reported. The 52-year-old woman was found dead on Sunday; police are investigating the case as a possible suicide after finding bruises on her neck and pills at the scene. Eden was in the Greek capital supervising the fourth season of the Apple TV+ spy series, which follows a Mossad agent trying to infiltrate the Iranian regime. Her body was found by her brother, according to Israeli broadcaster Kan, cited by The New York Post and reproduced by Agencia Noticias Argentinas. The brother grew concerned when she did not respond to his text messages and was the one who found her in the hotel room. Local media, such as Ta Nea, reported that Eden had bruises on her neck and lower body. The Greek police ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death and began collecting security camera footage and testimonies from hotel staff. The series' production company stated that there are no indications of criminal or nationalist motives in Eden's death, amidst rumors on social media suggesting a possible assassination by Iranian agents. 'The production company wants to make it clear that rumors that the death was criminal or nationalist are not true and have no basis,' stated Donna and Shula Productions in a statement cited by The Times of Israel. 'We call on the media and the public not to publish unfounded theories and to act with responsibility and sensitivity. This is a moment of immense pain for the family, friends, and colleagues. We want to preserve the dignity and privacy of Dana.' The series, winner of the International Emmy Award and aired on Apple TV, was created by Moshe Zonder, Dana Eden, and Maor Kohn. The decision to film scenes in Athens as a substitute for Tehran was made after Eden visited Greece on a family vacation and noticed visual similarities between the two cities, as Israelis are prohibited from traveling to Iran. Eden's professional partner, Shula Spiegel, is part of Donna and Shula Productions, the company behind 'Teheran' and other projects. 'Teheran' was a great success for Apple TV and stars Niv Sultan, Shaun Toub, Glenn Close, and Hugh Laurie. In 2021, the series won the International Emmy for Best Drama Series, becoming the first Israeli production to achieve this.
